What do I need to get started?

There are two ways to add sites to EarthAI Monitor. 

Upload Sites

The first is to upload a geojson file containing points or polygons of the areas you wish to monitor.  This is typically the easiest way to get started.  If you have a geojson file with other features, these features will be visible in the tool and (more importantly) you can select a feature to be the name of the sites.

If you don't have a geojson file - fear not.  There are lots of ways to solve this.  If you have a GIS tool, you can simply export your layer out as a geojson.  If you are not familiar with GIS tools, you can check out GeoJSON.io.  This is a great free site for creating or editing geojson files.

Draw Sites

The second way to create sites in EarthAI Monitor is to draw them on the map.  This is part of the configuration workflow and is covered in the Creating a Project article.

Satellite Imagery

EarthAI Monitor provides public satellite imagery for each of your sites.  This data is considered low resolution at 10m Ground Sample Distance (GSD), but it is very useful for detecting changes on the ground because it is collected approximately weekly (depending on where you are on the globe).  You can use this free imagery to detect gross changes on the ground. These changes can be triggers or "tips" to you to purchase a higher resolution image. In some cases, this imagery is adequate for all of your monitoring needs. 

Additional Layers

EarthAI Monitor has the ability to add additional vector (points, lines, and polygons) layers into EarthAI Monitor.  These layers can be selected in the project configuration workflow.  EarthAI Monitor will come with several useful layers to begin with, but if you have additional layers you wish to use, we can upload them for you.  This functionality is relatively new and is being expanded.

Navigation

Project View

Once you have configured your project, you will be able to open it.  At the project level, you will have a list of your sites on the left hand panel and in the map, you will see pins for each site in the project.  You can navigate to a site by clicking on the site on the left or on one of the pins.  

Site View

The site view is where the monitoring happens.  Here you will have the site visible in the map.  Along the bottom of the map, you will see a timeline.  By sliding the slider back and forth you can move backwards and forwards in time.
