Many Earth OnDemand users want to view the imagery they discover in ArcGIS Online.  ArcGIS Online offers a convenient way to add tile layers hosted by other services.  This article will describe the process of adding an image from Earth OnDemand as a layer in ArcGIS Online.

Step 0: Find the image you wish to view in Earth OnDemand

Step 1: Generate the tile layer link

Once you have selected the image you would like to view in ArcGIS, click on the "Link" button on corresponding image from the results on the right panel.

Step 2: Copy the link

Once Earth OnDemand has generated a link, a dialog will pop up showing this link.  Press the blue Copy button to copy the link to your clipboard.

Step 3: Open ArcGIS Online

Once you have copied the link, you can click on the blue Open ArcGIS button to navigate to ArcGIS.com.  Go to ArcGIS Online, and open the map you wish to add the image to.

After logging into ArcGIS Online, you can click on the Map button in the header to open a new map.

Step 4: Add Layer to ArcGIS Online Map

Press the + Add Layer button and select "Add Layer from Web" from the drop down menu.  This will open a dialog titled "Add Layer from Web."

Step 5: Paste Link into ArcGIS layer dialog

a) In the "Add Layer from Web" dialog, select "A Tile Layer" from the drop down list.

You will see additional fields appear after you make this selection.

b) Paste the url from your clipboard into the "URL" field.

c) Add a title for the layer.  This will be the name of the layer in the layer manager.

d) Add credits for the layer.  It is appropriate to add attribution text to the imagery provider in this field.

e) Press the "Set Tile Coverage" button to set the extents of the layer.  

• This will open a new dialog called "Set Extent."  Pan and zoom to find the approximate extents of your image.
• Press the " Draw Extent" button
• Draw a bounding box to specify the extents of the layer for your image and Press OK

f) Press "Add Layer"
