This article will guide you through the process of starting up EarthAI Notebook for the first time.
In a web browser, go to the EarthAI Notebook URL at http://notebook.earthai.astraea.earth/. You will see the login screen below. Log in using your credentials, or click the tab to sign up if you have not yet done so.
After logging in, you will be taken to the EarthAI Notebook Launch Options page, as shown below.
The launch options allow a user to select among pre-configured instance types and sizes according to what best suits their particular use case. An instance type consists of varying combinations of CPUs/GPUs, memory, storage, and networking capacity, and can include more than one instance size to allow a user to scale their computing resources as needed. Note that your launch options may look different than what is shown above, depending on your EarthAI license. In a later article, we will cover tips and guidelines for choosing which instance is most appropriate for your analysis needs.
To get started, select the EarthAI Notebook, Dedicated Instance, and click the Launch EarthAI button at the bottom on the page. You will see the page below as the server is starting up. During this time, the server (a computer or device that manages network resources) identifies and obtains compute resources in the cloud, installs EarthAI Notebook on those resources, and loads the workspace into a web browser. Note that it can take up to 10 minutes for EarthAI Notebook to fully load, depending on the availability of the requested resources in the cloud.
If this is the first time you have logged in, you will see the Welcome to EarthAI Notebook page (shown below) when the platform is ready. If you have previously signed in and been active, your EarthAI Notebook workspace will be in the same state as when you last signed off.
You are now all set up to start your analysis!

When you are finished with your work in EarthAI Notebook, it is always recommended to shut down your server. This frees up cloud compute resources and ensures that you are not incurring unnecessary costs when not actively using the platform.
To shutdown the server, go to File -> Shut Down as shown below. Then click on the red Stop EarthAI Notebook Server button on the next page.
